A Relaxed Approach to Engagement Photos
Engagement sessions don’t need to feel overly planned or performative. Most of the time, it’s as simple as choosing a place you love, showing up, and letting things unfold naturally. I’ll guide you when it’s helpful—especially with light, movement, and composition—but I’m not trying to control every moment.
The goal is to create something that feels like you. Photos that reflect how you naturally interact, not a version of you that’s been overly posed or directed.

About Lauren
Lauren Mecum is a San Diego based engagement photographer drawn to the way a place and a moment come together—coastal light at the end of the day, wind moving through a field, the rhythm of just being there. Walking the cliffs at sunset and stopping when the light hits just right. Grabbing a drink somewhere you already love. Music playing, moving a little, not overthinking it. Sessions that feel more like time spent together than something overly planned.
You don’t have to perform or be “good” at photos. You don’t have to follow a formula or set of poses. Whether your style leans quieter, a little playful, or somewhere in between, the goal is the same—create something that actually reflects you. The result are photos that capture way you interact, the energy between you, and the small intimate moments that reflect your love.
Lauren took our engagement photos and I could not be happier with them! She made the process so fun and easy, sometimes we even forgot the camera was there! Her eye for detail and natural style in her editing of the photos was just perfect.

I always recommend choosing outfits that feel like you—comfortable, well-fitted, and easy to move in. Neutral tones and soft textures photograph beautifully, especially along the coast. It’s less about matching perfectly and more about feeling confident and relaxed. I’m happy to help you plan outfits so everything feels cohesive without feeling overdone.

Most engagement sessions last about 75 minutes, usually scheduled around sunset for the best light. My approach is relaxed and guided—I’ll give direction when needed, but I also leave space for things to unfold naturally. The goal is for it to feel more like spending time together than being in a photoshoot, so your photos reflect how it actually felt to be there.

We combine a thoughtful, human-centered approach with clear communication and reliable results. It’s not just what we do—it’s how we do it that sets us apart.
-
Depending on timing and distance, we can absolutely incorporate a second outfit or nearby location. Many couples choose one main location and keep the focus there, but if you want a bit of variety, we can build that into the session in a way that still feels relaxed and not rushed.

A mix of both, but it never feels overly posed. I’ll step in with direction when needed, especially to help with light, composition, or movement, but I’m not trying to control every moment. Most of the time, I’m paying attention and letting things unfold so the photos feel natural and true to you.
